Cents' Payne hurts Jarvis with walk-off home run
Chris Payne delivered a walk-off, three-run home run lifting the St. Thomas Evergreen Centennials over Jarvis Gamblers 6-4 in Game 2 of a recent International Softball Congress travel league double-header.
Ryan Cummings got the win working two innings in relief of starter Tane Richardson who threw five innings.
Retard Lessard and Chris Wismer each had a double and a triple, while Payne finished with four hits and four RBIs.
Pat Graham led Jarvis with three hits but suffered the loss on the mound.
St. Thomas and Jarvis tied the first game of the twinbill 1-1. It featured a pitcher's duel between Centennial Scott Wagar and Andrew Phibbs of Jarvis.
Wagar struck out 10 batters and gave up two hits, one a solo blast from Gambler Ryan Thompson.
Payne drove in the St. Thomas run and also drew two walks, while Mark Coleman had two hits.
Currently, Jarvis is 11th in the ISC rankings while St. Thomas sits 15th.
Up next for St. Thomas is the ISC World Qualifier June 20-22 in Jarvis starting with preliminary action.
The Centennials see Owen Sound at 7 p.m. on Friday, June 20, followed by Scarborough at 9 p.m.
On Saturday St. Thomas plays Niagara at 11 a.m. and Midland at 3 p.m.
