Strong ISC start for Centennials Three wins, one tie
FINGAL — Three wins and a tie have the St. Thomas Evergreen Centennials off to a strong start to the season in the International Softball Congress (ISC) travel league.
St. Thomas outscored their opponents 20-3 over four weekend games.
Cents pitchers Tane Richardson and Andy Jackson not only stopped the opposition but the pair greatly contributed to their team’s offence.
Richardson smacked a home run in the Centennials’ five inning 6-0 shutout of Wyevale on Sunday.
Brian Roote had three hits and Mark Coleman had two. Pitchers Dan Beecroft and Ryan Cummings combined for the shutout.
St. Thomas kicked off the weekend edging the Niagara Snappers 3-2 Friday winning on a two-out single by Aaron Gould in the seventh inning.
Richardson picked up the win in relief of Jackson who tossed five scoreless innings.
The men on the rubber ruled the second game between the Centennials and Snappers in a 1-1 tie. There are no extra innings in the ISC travel league.
Richardson gave up a Snappers home run working four innings, while Beecroft threw three scoreless innings.
Jackson drove in the Cents’ lone run with a double while Chris Wismer chipped in with two hits.
St. Thomas beat up on a tired Wyevale team 11-0 late Saturday led by three RBIs and three hits, including a home run, by Chris Payne and three hits and two RBIs from Wismer.
