Need somebody for this week! Wiz, Coley and Coach Tom will give it their best shot though. We might need to score a few runs this week!

Wismer leads Storm to opening win
Tuesday May 02, 2006 By Rob Ross Times-Journal staff BELMONT -- On the rubber in an emergency role, Chris Wismer created a 9-1-1 situation with his bat. The St. Thomas Evergreen Storm pitcher knocked in four runs while surviving a high-scoring affair for a complete game in a 13-8 win over the Belmont Swiss Chalet Black Sox in the season opener to the St. Thomas and District Fastball League Monday. Two-run singles by Wismer and Troy Rick highlighted a six-run sixth inning for the Storm breaking a 7-7 tie. Wismer finished two-for-three, with a pair of walks and four RBIs. “I figured I had to get some hits by the way they (Belmont) were scoring runs,” Wismer said. “You know I'm just an emergency pitcher.” He allowed eight hits and seven walks over the seven innings filling in for the Storm's top two pitchers Dan Beecroft and Ryan Cummings. “I was fighting the strike zone, but as long as I kept us in the game with our lineup there's offence,” said Wismer Belmont led 3-0 after one inning and 6-3 after the third. St. Thomas tied the game at 3-3 in the second inning and took a 7-6 lead in the fifth on a Wismer two-run single. Black Sox starter Todd Winkworth struggled with his control and was relieved by rookie Keenan Haight in the sixth. “I was inconsistent with the strike zone. I walked eight guys and I don't think I've ever done that,” Winkworth said. “I let the team down. The first five innings I was terrible.” Brian Harvey had a walk, a single and triple with two RBI for the Storm. Retard Lessard walked three times, had two RBI and scored three runs. Jamie Peat mixed a single with three free passes. Leading the Black Sox was Steve French with four RBI and two runs scored on two hits. Matt Lynch had two hits, a walk and scored a run. In his fastball debut Scott Bate was one for three, with a walk, sacrifice fly and two runs scored. Bate is a former St. Thomas Tom Cat of the Junior Intercounty Baseball League. The Storm host Shedden Mission 8 p.m. Thursday in Fingal. Belmont welcomes Alvinston Indians at 2 p.m. Sunday.
