Highgate is shutting down for this year at least. Might be back next season. It's a shame because they have a huge following of fans.

I guess Highgate should of thought about that before they screwed themselves. Nobody's fault but there own, last time I checked they were grown men not kids on that team I think they can make there own decision.

Yes, they are grown men and can make their own decisions. Yes there were issues with the coaching. Yes they only let one guy pitch for the last 5 years. But it is sad any time we lose a team in this game. There is no other team to fill the void. This team had an executive that raised all their $$. They had fans that followed them wherever they went. They had a reasonable amount of success within the OASA. It's never good to lose a team like this!!

It's too bad to see our team go but I for one am not surprised. First of all we had a nice group of guys that played ball and were pretty good at it too, but then their was a problem in the coaching part of it. You can't be a coach and a friend at the same time, if your gonna play someone just because they are a good friend and not cuz they are 0-12 in their last 12 at bats their is something wrong. I don't plan on sitting around this summer and i will support our teams in the area Blenheim and Morpeth and i hope in that Highgate does come back to the league in and does well but they should look towards replacing one of their coaches. Highgate has had alot of great ball players and some great pitchers and are all lost because of the same reason. Lee Hopkins how many games he pitch in last year ?? Norm Logan same thing could help out but was never used , Greg Guy still a dominate picther when he is on, Paul Ceppi , Had him never used him and really that is just pitchers. You can't count on ONE pitcher to play and pitch every game of the season, and when he leaves then who do you turn too all the guys you burnt in the past???

I'm not aware of the pitching situation in Highgate before the Ben Blonde era, but I am familiar with it the past two seasons. First of all, Norm Logan did not want to pitch. He didn't leave Highgate because he wanted to pitch more. Secondly, there were definately conflicts last year with the pitching situation. To blame it entirely on the Rock coaching staff is bogus, however. The fiasco that took place at the Glencoe tournament last season was, in my opinion the reason Lee left. Although he had a right to be upset, as a coaching staff you want to make sure you have a pitching staff going into a tournament. Days before the tournament Highgate had two guys commit to the whole weekend. (One whom battled injuries the whole season) Any team would try and find another guy. Unfortunately, after Highgate found another pitcher the fourth thrower committed. We all know the result. Highgate's coaches put a lot of time and effort into the Rock. No one can ever question their love for the game. In seven years the Rock won the league playoffs, the OASA 'C' crown, and were elimination finalists last year. When the season ended last year their team chemistry would be tough to match by any other team in the leauge.

when the season ended their team chemistry was good, then why as soon as the season was over the players were looking for other places to play. It wasn't just Ben Blonde either, a few others at the league banquet were looking for other places. Norm Logan would've pitched if it was on a regular basis, not just when the game was out of reach or meaningless. Is it all the coaches fault, maybe but the players have to take responsibility for the results. There could be a team in Highgate this year if they wanted to rebuild, there are players out there that would play if they looked around. Short on pitching, not a problem teams that have three league pitchers should be willing to give up one or ask if they would travel to Highgate to play instead of pulling pine a third of the time. Although, you have to be sad that the league lost a solid team, you certainly shouldn't feel sorry for them either. Hopefully, after a year off fastball will be back in Highgate for the fans sake. It should be a reminder to the remaining teams to incorporate young players into games so when situations like this develop you have players that can step up and play.

Is it still the Union Storm or is it Fingal Storm, St. Thomas Storm, St. Thomas Horney's Posse or what....I've heard alot of rumours. Heard Porcelli bought Canada Steel and made 'double a' the unit manager for Versace Steel down in Portis B. Team will be the Portis Versace A's.

Enough with the queer talk. Leave that for the diamondback forum!! About the Storm team name -- possible change; I think the FU STORM has a ring to it. It's not Horney's posse. Bill has nothing to do with it. It's Tommy's team and always has been!! That said, maybe we can have a name the team contest. Winner gets a donkey punch and some strawberry shortcake!!
