Truth be told guys, Glencoe, really only lost 2 full time players. Rich Gailbraith and Chris Welch. Wolfey only made the league minimum, Time Stover hardly played, and Greg Huston went AWOL mid way through the season. They have added Theo Metron, Rowan Lam (College Hardball Player in States), and a number of good young players from Glencoe area. Also heard a rumor that Rob Fawcett will be joining them for league. He will definitely compliment Winship and Neal if this is true. They definitely will be younger, but their starting lineup will not be much different than it was a year ago. It is too bad Highgate could not make a go of it, but I think we will be treated to perhaps some parody in the league this year. I enjoy watching all the teams in this league. contrary to all the bashing of the teams in this league from those in who play in the almighty Perth league, this is a very entertaining league to watch.

Glencoes lineup was far different in the play-offs than in the reg season. Most of the guys that are left this year did not do alot of the hitting at least in the 3 series i have watched the past 2 years. Sure Winship hit better in the playoffs than in the reg season but is losing some of the protection around him that did put the ball in play, but Mitchell and Pisky did not hit much when the pressure was on the line. No way in hell Lamb (have never seen him) or Theo will replace the defence Rich G gave Glencoe, Theo will help replace the offence . Wolfey was always on base, and I know from watching the Alvinston series the past 2 years Stover killed them with big hits. I guess the only way to see how the losses and additions in Glencoe will affect the team, have to wait till after the season.. I dont see them even matching their 500 record of last years reg season, and sure the heck dont see them making it to the finals. But hey that is why you play the game. I still see it coming down to the Storm vs the Indians in the finals. I hope Brett Neal is finally healthy and gets to pitch some this year he was always good throwing for the Tribe. Good luck to all the teams this season. Look forward to watching some good ball.

The umpiring in Belmont was very frustrating last night. Strike zone was tight. Just ask Winky. I love the 2.5 hour games. Storm 13 Belmont 8.

Nothing like starting the season off with a SPN qualifier

I don't know what the feeling is around the rest of the league.. but why do we use them crappy K-Master balls. they don't last through whole game, they rip at the seems and they are a crappy ball to handle.. Just my thoughts and some thoughts that I have heard around the league from some other players.. Can we change to another ball next year maybe..

The constitution says that 2 identical balls must be used for each game and that they must be approved by CASA (Softball Canada). The teams have always strived to use the same balls but nothing says they have to. I know that Alvinston has started to use the Worth Dream Seam ball because they are the balls that the ISC will be using at the Tournament of Champions. I think the previous post is correct about the K-Master not lasting. They also seam to rocket off the bats like the old Red Dots used to. There are other balls on the market that conform with our rules and the teams are welcome to try them. But, I'm sure there will be plenty of complaining if it happens.

I guess it would be a personal preference too.. I know that I don't like pitching with a K-master because the seems are tough on the fingers and the cover is hard to get a grip on if it happens to get a little chalk/lime on it or even dirt. I red dot or a dream seem are much nicer in that respect for me..

Glencoe Astros Win the Mitchell Mets Tournament beating Tavistock in the semi's 6-3, Brett Neal was the winning pitcher in that game and thanks to a 6 run seventh inning they beat Elmira Cubs in the Final. Jason Dawdy got the win and Shaun Winship the save. Congrats Boys!
