Indians take 2-0 series lead
Alvinston, ON – The Alvinston Indians returned home on Tuesday night, for game 2 of their best of 5 final series versus the St. Thomas Storm. Once again a good crowd was on hand to enjoy the game, with the game featuring starters Ryan Cummings for St. Thomas, and Kyle Crawford for Alvinston.
After Alvinston escaped the top of the first allowing no runs with St. Thomas having threatened, Joe Triest started them off right in the bottom half of the first inning, when he hit a solo homerun to lead off the game, for an early 1-0 lead for Alvinston. However, in the top of the second, St. Thomas returned the favour, counting their first run when Crocker walked, was sacrificed to second and then tied the game on a flyout by Gould. Crawford then settled in a bit for Alvinston, as did Cummings for St. Thomas, and the game stayed at 1-1 until the bottom of the sixth, when Alvinston finally got busy with the bats, and capitalized on their opportunity. With one out, Chapman singled, and he promptly scored the go ahead run, on an RBI triple that was smacked down the line by Brad Young. Steve French was then intentionally walked, to put runners on first and third with one out. The second out was then recorded for St. Thomas on a strikeout, and pinch hitter Doug Charlton came to the plate for Alvinston, and delivered in the clutch, roping a ball at the second baseman that he was unable to handle, scoring Young from third base for a 3-1 lead. French was now at third, and Stocking was reentered for Charlton at first, and Andy Triest came to the plate and delivered as well. Triest took an 0-2 pitch through the hole on the second base side, singling to score French. Again, runners were at third and first, now with Joe Triest up to bat, and Triest was hit by a pitch to load the bases. Stocking then scored on a wild pitch, and then St. Thomas was able to get the final out, but not before Alvinston counted 4 runs, and owned a 5-1 lead.
Brad Young had came in in the sixth for Crawford, recording three outs, and did the same in the seventh, allowing the first hit of the game to St. Thomas, but not allowing any damage, as Alvinston won by the final score of 5-1. Game 3 goes Tuesday in Fingal at 8:00pm.
Young earned the win for Alvinston in two innings of relief allowing only the one hit, and he recorded one strikeout. He was also a difference maker at the dish for Alvinston, going 3/3 for Alvinston with a single, double, and triple, a run scored, and the game winning hit and RBI. Crawford did well as the starter for Alvinston as well, going 5 innings, allowing no hits, and 4 walks, while striking out 5.

the league final now stands at 2-1 as St. Thomas got a dramatic 2 out walk off single from Eric Scott to score Dusty Brown in the bottom of the 7th to win 3-2. Scott was 4 for 4 on the night and Brown was 3 for 4 with 2 runs scored. Todd Winkworth started and left in the 6th with the score 2-1 in favour of the Storm but Steve French blooped one to leftfield to score Jamie Shields and knot the game at 2. Ryan Cummings pitch the last 2 innings to earn the win while Brad Young suffered the loss while going the distance for the Indians.

Shedden Blanks Alvinston Last night the Shedden Mission played host to the Alvinston Indians and Shedden pitcher, Nick Goetz mowed them down. He only allowed 2 hits and walked 1. Catcher, Curtis Cornielius caught a great game, playing havoc to Alvinston batters. The game got a little heated when Alvinston Pitcher, Kyle Crawford threw behind Shedden Slugger, Gary Cooke but when the umpire tossed Shedden tough-guy Pat Hagerty for inappropriate behavior the game got underway only to see Shedden score 3 runs and put the game out of reach. With bases loaded Jason Dawdy smashed a double off Crawford driving in 2 and Mike unwin cranked a single to plate another Shedden runner.Jason Dawdy led the Shedden offence going 2/3 at the plate with 2 Rbi’s and both Mike Unwin and Gary Cooke went 1/2 with each having a walk. Tyler Lynch and Rob Burns each had singles to help Shedden take an all important win to put the Shedden Mission back in 1st Place all alone. Nick Goetz had 9 Strikeouts in the win. Alvinston Pitcher Kyle Crawford had 8 Strikeouts in a losing cause. Chris Drew and Brad Young had the only hits for Alvinston. Shedden plays host to St. Thomas on Sunday at 2pm in Fingal.

ST Thomas League Finals Game 1
STORM RALLY LATE
For the 2nd consecutive year, the Alvinston Indians and the St. Thomas Storm opened their best 3 out of 5 St. Thomas & District Major Fastball League Playoff Finals on Wednesday in Alvinston.
All started off well for the Indians, with Jamie Shields driving in Craig Lyons for the first run of the game, after Lyons had previously singled to lead off the inning, in the third inning. In the fourth inning, the Indians struck again when Alix Chisholm doubled and then scored on an RBI single by Doug Charlton. Lyons then followed yet again with a two run homerun to bust the game open by a 4-0 score.
Kyle Crawford was cruising through the game for the Indians until the fifth inning when Aaron Gould doubled down the left field line, and eventually scored on a Crawford wild pitch on a very close play at the plate, for St. Thomas' first run. The next inning for St. Thomas, Mark Coleman singled, Troy Rick walked and Jamie Peat hit a 3 run HR to square the game at 4, making it a new game. ST Thomas League Finals Game 2
Storm take 2-0 series lead
The Alvinston Indians traveled to Fingal on Thursday evening, for game 2 of the best 3 out of 5 League Playoff Finals.
The Indians were looking to rebound after their game 1 loss, but it was not to be in game 2. The Indians allowed two runs in the second, with one run coming courtesy of a Jamie Peat HR and Chris Wismer scored on a passed ball after some head's up base running. Aaron Gould's RBI single cashed Peat in the fourth inning, making it 3-0 for St. Thomas. The Storm would add one more run in the fifth inning when Mark Coleman tripled and then scored on an RBI single by veteran second baseman - Troy Rick.
With the score now 4-0, Alvinston was able to add two runs in the seventh inning, but that was all as Dan Beecroft pitched a tidy game for St. Thomas, allowing only 4 hits and 3 walks in seven innings of work. Brad Young walked in the seventh and with two out Ryan Chapman also walked. The the hot hitting rookie - Craig Lyons scored both runners with a double to the fence. Beecroft was able to retire Andy Triest to strand Lyons on 3rd base and end the game. The final score was 4-2.

St. Thomas Storm won the STDMFL playoffs for the 6th time by beating the Alvinston Indians 2-1 on a cold Sunday evening in Alvinston.
St. Thomas sent game 1 winner Ryan Cummings to the mound and Alvinston also countered with their game 1 starter Kyle Crawford. The game proved to be a pitcher's duel. Alvinston threatened in the 1st inning with lead off hitter Joe Triest getting on base due to an error. He was sacrificed to 2nd and Steve French later walked. However, Cummings escaped harm by stranding both runners. Veteran 2nd baseman, Troy Rick got the Storm on the board in the top of the 2nd by hitting the first pitch of the inning for a huge HR. St. Thomas would then load the bases but Crawford wriggled out of the inning with 2 big strike outs.
The 3rd inning proved to be the turning point. After getting 2 quick outs, the game got a little more intense when Crawford hit Rick with a pitch. Chris Wismer followed with a walk and Aaron Gould got a clutch 2 out RBI single that scored Rick for what proved to be the winning run. St. Thomas again left the bases loaded. Crawford cruised after that inning, retiring the next 12 Storm hitters in order to keep his club in it.
Alvinston scored their only run in the 4th when, with 2 out Chris Drew hit a ball over the head of the Storm right fielder for a triple and scored on an errant throw to 3rd.
Cummings would surrender only one more hit over the final 3 innings. He was at his best in the bottom of the 7th when he was able to strike out the side to preserve the win. He finished with 11 ks and gave up four hits and 2 bases on balls. Crawford gave up 3 hits, had 9 Ks and issued 4 bases on balls along with 2 hit batsmen.
Alex Chisholm chipped in with 2 hits for Alvinston while Aaron Gould had 2 hits for St. Thomas.
After losing game 1 of the quarter finals to Glencoe, St. Thomas won 8 games in a row, hitting 15 homeruns over that span.
The Storm would like to thank the Indians for a well played series and wish all teams, fans and sponsors a great fall/winter and hope to see you all next spring!
