Was that Payner on the air..... I some guy by the name of Richard calling to see if Pete's had any Dri-Fit jerseys that have been "sleeve monstered" and some guy by the name of Doug called and requested a special skate fitting because he has had "Toelio" in the past.
That was entertaining stuff for a Saturday afternoon! Payner sounded very much like an expert if you ask me.

Fellas, anyone interested in going to the tribute to Wolfy let me know on Monday at the golf. We can do a cannonball run from RC wedding out to the tribute and then back to the reception and lite it up. I hope the golden boys are in full attendance. I will be sharing a few words at the event, so I give me some stuff to work with!! Cheers Payner

Canada's national fastball team is heading for Fingal on Thursday to play the St. Thomas Evergreen Centennials. The 7 p.m. contest is the first game of two doubleheaders slated for this week against the locals who will be hosting the Canadian senior men's championship tournament come August. The national team is touring in preparation for the International Softball Federation world championships coming up in mid-July. The second twinbill on Saturday, also at 7 p.m., will see the arrival of extra players from Canada's 30-man roster who will mix in with the Centennials for the day. Among the familiar faces playing in the red-and-white will be outfielder Ryan Wolfe, who wore St. Thomas colours until 2006 before moving to the Waterloo Twins roster. Craig Crawford and Sean O'Brien, who both played with the Centennials in 2005 and 2006, are the catchers for Canada. There's also national team assistant coach Ray Tilley, who played baseball with the St. Thomas Elgins and also played for Sarnia Ranson in the old Memorial Fastball League. St. Thomas coach Bill Horne said, "It's a great chance for people to come out and see the best fastball players in Canada." Righthander Rob Schweyer is expected to get the start Thursday for St. Thomas, and righty Scott Wagar will also be on hand.

It's time for a tuneup.
As the calendar moves closer to the end of August, the St. Thomas Evergreen Centennials are heading for the Mississippi tomorrow for the ISC World Fastball Tournament.
It won't be precisely the team that will hit the field for the Canadian Senior Men's Fastball Championship being held Aug. 30 to Sept. 6 in St. Thomas ... but it will be close.
Twenty-four teams will assemble in the Quad Cities area of western Illinois and eastern Iowa for the ISC event which runs Aug. 14-21 in Davenport and Bettendorf, Iowa, as well as Moline/East Moline and Rock Island Ill.
The Centennials are not lightly regarded at the Worlds, even without pitchers Rob Schweyer, who'll be throwing for Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, and Sean Whitten, who is with the Midwest Stampede out of Bondurant, Iowa.
To ease that loss, St. Thomas has drawn chucker Ward Gosse from Torby, Nfld., who also totes a hefty bat.
"We'd like to finish in the top 10 at the Worlds," coach Bill Horne said Tuesday, while discussing fastball at his sales desk at Elgin Chrysler. "There are some good ball clubs there.
"We won't have at the ISC the pitching we'll have at the Canadians, that's for sure. But we can stay in the top 10."
St. Thomas opens at 6 p.m. Friday against The Bar of Green Bay, Wisc., and will be sending up approximately the same order it will use at the Canadians.
Tyler Lessard brings a high on-base percentage and speed to the leadoff spot, with Mark Coleman and Mark Johnson there to set the table.
Gosse and Brian Roote are pencilled in to drive in runs from the four and five slots, followed by Chris Payne, Brad Robinson, Pete Babcock and Kevin Lynch.
Coleman, said Horne, is being "counted on to be one of the leaders at the ISC and Canadians. He hits for a high percentage, can hit for power and is quick on the base paths."
His versatility also allows him to trot in from his outfield spot to set up behind the plate if needed.
The ISC tourney is the last event before the hometown Canadians and the Centennials are looking to get everything in order and to "get everybody's head into it," said Horne.
A win in Friday's opener will put the Centennials up against Albaugh Inc., from Elkhart, Iowa, in an 8 p.m. matchup Saturday. That game will be broadcast on Ballpark Radio, and fans can tune in through a hookup on Al's Fastball website (www.alsfastball.com).
The website will also be tracking the tournament daily.
Other Canadian teams at the event are the Jarvis Gamblers, Kitchener Rivershark Twins, Owen Sound Selects, Saskatoon Aspen Interiors, Saskatoon Poly Plus Diamondbacks, and Vancouver Grey Sox.
